The University of New Mexico, Office of the University Controller, also known as Financial Services, located on Main Campus is responsible for all central accounting functions for the University.
It is the responsibility of the Controller's Office aka Financial Services to ensure compliance with all financial policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the University or imposed by external agencies, including state and federal audit requirements, following generally accepted accounting practices. Additionally, the Controller's Office oversees the maintenance of the official financial records of the University.
Within Financial Services, The Contract & Grant Accounting Department (CGA) has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant 1 - no experience required.
CGA's mission is to provide professional expertise and quality customer service to the UNM community on externally sponsored funding. CGA interprets and implements UNM policies related to contracts and grants as well as reviews and interprets policies of outside private and governmental funding agencies. CGA oversees the invoicing and revenue collection process for the funding.
CGA constantly searches for process improvements and efficiencies to improve work experience. CGA encourages teamwork in meeting the departments mission as well as professional development. More than half of CGA's current employees have been promoted internally within the department.
CGA is looking for someone who works well with others, is willing to learn new skills, and wants to become a part of the exciting role of supporting UNM in research and other sponsored projects.
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
* Setting up new sponsored projects in CGA's accounting system
* Timely review and approval of departmental transactions on sponsored projects
* Verification and submission of monthly invoices to sponsors
* Verification and submission of subaward invoices from vendors
* Assistance with pre-close checks on awards
* Other duties to support the Fiscal Monitors in our department

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; no previous experience required.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
