GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Certified Educator, working collaboratively with other staff ACPE Certified Educators and staff chaplains, is responsible for the delivery, administration, ongoing development, and evaluation of all aspects of Clinical Pastoral Education Programs. The Educator also provides direct spiritual care and consultation as needed.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Shares in leadership of Spiritual Care Department. Collaborates with other departments regarding Spiritual Care Services and CPE students.
  2. Plans and coordinates CPE units, including orientation of new students. Supervises in the Clinical Pastoral Education program.
  3. Attends to administrative aspects of the CPE program including updating of policies and procedures according to ACPE standards and maintenance of accreditation materials.
  4. Supports ongoing process and content improvements to the CPE Programs.
  5. Functions as a member of the multifaith chaplaincy team and maintains a close working relationship with members of the department; participates in staff meetings and activities. Is available on short notice for emergencies and on-call department needs.
  6. Serves on hospital committees as needed.
  7. Adheres to the Chaplaincy profession's standards and code of ethics. Adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Creates and implements new departmental and CPE policies as needed.
  8. Provides direct spiritual care to patients, families, and staff of all faith traditions and all ages as needed.
  9. Shares in the planning and leadership of multifaith worship as well as programs linking the department with the hospital community.
  10. Participates in continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and keep abreast of developments in spiritual care and clinical pastoral education; participates in local and national ACPE events.
  11. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational:

  • A graduate degree in theology, preferably a Master of Divinity, from an accredited seminary or university.

Endorsing:

  • Endorsements for hospital chaplaincy and for CPE supervision from their spiritual community.

Certification:

  • Certification as a chaplain by APC, NACC, or NAJC and maintains such certification.
  • Certification as an ACPE Certified Educator and maintains such certification.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years' experience in hospital Chaplaincy, preferably in a large academic medical center.
  • At least 3 years' experience as an ACPE Certified Educator, preferably in a large academic medical center.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs generally throughout the institution. Will require visits to patient care units and occasional visits to external organizations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for supervision of CPE students and others as assigned.
