Unit Highlights

The Student Nurse Extern Cohort will begin June 3, 2024 and run for up to 10 consecutive weeks. You will be working 36 hours per week and will have the opportunity to participate in educational classes. After successful completion of the cohort, you may be invited to remain on staff in a flexible position leading up to graduation.
The Student Nurse Extern program gives senior nursing students the opportunity to work under the direction of an RN in the care and well-being of patients.
In this exciting program, Student Nurse Externs are paired with an experienced RN to provide mentorship, hands-on learning and assimilation into the practice environment. Your assigned RN will function as a mentor, helping you develop the critical thinking skills you need to increase your confidence as a nursing professional. These nurse extern programs offer nursing students a transitional opportunity to prepare for working in a clinical environment. In addition, you work with other members of the care team and will be supported by a Nurse Educator to ensure your learning needs are met as you gain the best clinical experience possible. The extern program encompasses day, night, and weekend shifts, based on the mentor's schedule.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing, completed fundamentals of nursing and in final year of school required.
  • Active MD CNA License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
