AP093 Full Stack Developer
We are looking for someone adaptable, independent, and able to hit the ground running to work with Web Development and Systems Administration teams at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
The successful candidate will primarily support the design, development, testing, and deployment of the flagship Goddard Sciences Directorate website. They will also be interested in automating processes and Infrastructure as Code.
We are using a variety of tools to support both web applications and infrastructure across the Sciences and Exploration Directorate. This is a great opportunity to work with modern technologies and development practices, and to make an impact at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Systems and Software Management: Contribute to the operation and maintenance of software systems, ensuring seamless interaction amongst team members through the use of GitLab and various collaborative tools
  • Modern Web Development: Develop cutting-edge web tools to support organizational objectives, employing the latest technologies and best practices in web development
  • Version Control: Proficiently maintain software using the Git version control system, including branching, merging, and conflict resolution strategies
  • Technical Problem Solving: Engage in proactive troubleshooting, meticulous tracking, and effective resolution of technical issues to ensure system integrity and reliability
  • CI/CD Automation Engineering: Develop and implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to enhance the reliability and efficiency of software and system management
  • Innovative Design and Prototyping: Conceptualize and prototype innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness within the organization
  • Interdisciplinary Support and Collaboration: Provide robust support and foster collaboration across different groups within the Sciences and Exploration Directorate by managing and deploying tools that facilitate research across various scientific disciplines
Required:
  • US Citizenship required for this position.
  • A developer with a keen interest in operations, embodying a DevOps mindset
  • Expertise in JavaScript for both client-side and server-side development including Node.js
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js or React, demonstrating the ability to create dynamic and responsive web applications
  • Solid understanding of relational database technologies, including MySQL and or PostgreSQL
  • Proficiency in using Docker for containerization and deployment of applications
  • Comfortable operating within Linux environments and shell scripting
  • Extensive experience with Git, including push/pull requests, merges, issue tracking, and working with repositories
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines or comparable technologies such as Jenkins, including the development and maintenance of automation workflows
  • Proficiency in unit testing with frameworks like Jest to ensure code reliability and functionality
  • Collaborative Team Player, Ability to thrive in a team environment, contributing to a collaborative work culture
Desired:
  • Genuine passion and interest for information technology, constantly exploring and keeping familiar with the latest tools and technologies at the forefront of innovation.
  • Experience with Docker Compose and/or Docker Swarm Mode
  • Familiarity with OpenStack and/or the OpenStack API
  • Interest in IaC practices, particularly with Terraform
  • Knowledge in configuration management tools such as SaltStack, Ansible, etc.
  • A solid grasp of networking concepts and practices
  • Experience with server-side rendering, particularly with Nuxt.js
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages, including TypeScript and Python, is highly regarded
