Job Description

The Research IT - Cyberinfrastructure Group at The Jackson Laboratory is in search of a System Administrator (SA) deeply entrenched in Linux and High Performance Computing (HPC). We're looking for someone passionate about engineering, configuring, and optimizing systems hardware and software within our IT infrastructure. Our SAs are the backbone of our Linux-based systems, including ESX VMware, SAN and NAS storage, Unix/Linux environments, and High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, driving continual innovation.

We need SAs who thrive in a collaborative environment, working independently or in teams, sharing knowledge across the board. Instead of hierarchical distinctions, we value the autonomy and expertise each SA brings. As you progress, you'll take on more responsibilities, from advanced troubleshooting to leading smaller IT initiatives and training junior team members.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Maintaining and supporting server IT Infrastructure with a strong Linux focus, from enterprise storage to cloud-based applications.
  • Leading small-scale projects and providing in-depth troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Having a deep understanding of SysAdmin portfolio technologies for effective daily operations and troubleshooting.
  • Analyzing and recommending improvements for hardware, software, and processes.
  • Creating and updating documentation for seamless knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree in information technology or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in server virtualization, high-availability systems, and performance tuning, especially in Linux environments.
  • Experience in vendor management and advanced troubleshooting for enterprise or HPC applications.
  • Strong command over Linux/Unix systems (Rocky, CentOS, Red Hat) and Microsoft operating systems.
  • Knowledge of enterprise SAN and NAS systems, as well as fundamental network switching and routing.

We're looking for individuals who are not just keeping up with technology trends but actively contributing to them, ready to offer feedback and insights. If you're passionate about Linux, HPC, and pushing the boundaries of IT infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.

Note: Travel and on-call availability may be necessary for this role.

The salary range is $73,305 - $122,730. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
