General Responsibilities
Provides leadership assistance to the Director of Center for Learning Excellence in overseeing various Center for Learning Excellence initiatives. The position provides direct support to faculty and institutional administrators in the design and development of courses in all modalities, the use of instructional technology systems, and the application of sound pedagogical and instructional design principles.
Work Performed
* Assist in leadership, planning, and oversight of Center for Learning Excellence instructional design initiatives.
* Collaborate with faculty and institutional administrators to provide support in the development of quality courses in all modalities.
* Coordinate and implement both strategic and tactical plans involving faculty development and training; course development; curriculum design; instructional technology. Support faculty in the integration of emerging technologies and pedagogy to facilitate engaging teaching practices and student learning experiences in all learning modalities.
* Maintain an awareness of current and future trends in the field and monitor technological developments in distance learning for technological means to achieve educational or outreach goals.
* Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities in the theory and methods of instruction in all modalities.
* Assist in the design, organization, facilitation and assessment of professional development for faculty use of a learning management system (LMS) and other distance education technologies.
* Ensures college-wide awareness of, and compliance with, federal and state distance learning regulations, as well as licensing and copyright laws.
* Develops and implements plans that address accessibility in online instruction. This includes compliance with federal regulations, support and training for faculty in designing accessible course materials, problem-solving to address accommodation requests from students or faculty and adaptation of course materials.
* Assists the director with the division of work among the Center for Learning staff.
* Assists in monitoring the review of online courses for standards, consistency, and quality.
Assists in LMS administration and maintenance.
* Participates in the development and administration of applicable policies, strategic plans, goals and programmatic activities pertaining to online and hybrid learning at the College.
* Maintain currency in knowledge of distance education trends, innovations, research and best practices by participating in local trade association meetings, reading current journals, books, and magazine articles.
* In the absence of the Director of Center for Learning Excellence, provides leadership to staff and supervision of the Center for Learning Excellence Department's operations and services. As required, represents the Director of Center for Learning Excellence in matters related to the department and Teaching and Learning division.
* Supervises and evaluates of part-time support staff and part-time student workforce (interns and work studies).
* Performs other site and position-specific responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Education Required Master's degree
Minimum Number of Years Experience Required 3
Other Knowledge Required
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, Distance Learning, or Instructional Technology with a minimum 3 years of professional experience in the development and administration of distance education courses and programs in a higher education setting.
Minimum two years of experience teaching online at the post-secondary level (preferred).
Proven design and development experience for online learners and experience with designing, developing, and delivering blended learning solutions.
Demonstrated expertise in the theory and practice of distance learning pedagogy and experience in curriculum development, instructional methods, and online instruction.
Excellent analytic and evaluation skills.
Demonstrated experience consulting with faculty and conducting professional development opportunities.
Experience in LMS course administration, training, and user support-direct experience with the Canvas LMS preferred. Quality Matters certified (preferred)
Familiarity with computer related ADA requirements and ability to incorporate features to comply with Section 508.
Competent, knowledgeable and experienced with appropriate hardware and software used in the creation of digital media - including (but not limited to) Microsoft Office, Adobe Captivate, Photoshop, Premier, Articulate, Audacity, web page authoring and social media platforms.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal) with the ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team of faculty, staff, and administrators.
Working Conditions

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
