The Translational Scientist position is a hands-on laboratory position that will broadly support the TransPath portfolio through histology procedures (including but not limited to microtomy, H&E staining), tissue staining (including but not limited to Immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), multiplexed IHC/IF, and in situ hybridization digitization), sample procurement and management, data management and transfer, and compliance support for Good Clinical Practices and Human Biological Specimen.
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
- Performs routine and non-routine histology including but not limited to paraffin and frozen microtomy and slide staining.
- Responsible for the correct operation and utilization of lab equipment, and overall state of the shared lab space.
- Supports and prepares incoming and outgoing human biological sample shipments; supports receipt and visual assessment of tissue specimens to ensure appropriate identification and sample labeling, prepares shipping packages and accurate manifests.
- Ensures all procedures with research, pre-clinical and clinical human tissue are performed in compliance with company's HBS guidelines.
- Makes detailed observations, analyzes data, interprets results, and communicates findings to team members in a clear and concise manner. May be asked to present findings at internal and external meetings.
- Prepares and maintains precise technical summaries, protocols and all appropriate documentation of experiments in laboratory notebooks/electronic laboratory notebooks. Ensures own work, and work of peers, is compliant with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCP), Safety, Health, and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulations.
- Provides solutions to a variety of problems involving basic scientific principles.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Essential for the role:
- Minimum Bachelors' degree in the biological sciences, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or related discipline
- 1 year direct experience in a scientific laboratory
- Proficient in use of relevant computer programs (Microsoft Office, Excel and MS Project)
Desirable for the role:
- 1 year direct experience with microtomy and histology staining
- 1 year experience using immunohistochemistry procedures
- Proficient in use of relevant computer programs (Microsoft Office, Excel and MS Project)
Level of Supervision Required:
Perform job duties with minimal supervision
