Position: Visiting Assistant Professor, Music Education (Instrumental OR Choral) - Two Positions - one in each area of specialization

Responsibilities: The University of New Mexico is seeking two full time faculty members to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in instrumental or choral music education as assigned by the department chair. Supervise student teachers and pre-student teaching interns and advise graduate research projects. Recruit and advise graduate and undergraduate music education majors. Demonstrate commitment to university service. Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relations with area music educators.

Rank & Salary: Visiting Assistant Professor. This is a one-year non-renewable position. Salary commensurate with experience.

Appointment Begins: August 2024

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in music, music education, or education with all requirements completed by August 2024. Three years elementary, middle, or high school teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral degree or All-But-Dissertation status in music education or education. Two years of college teaching experience at the graduate assistant level or above.

High-level expertise (teaching ability, musicianship, and scholarship) in either instrumental (band or orchestra) or choral education. Specializations in one or more of the following areas (as demonstrated in the CV and/or Teaching Statement): instrumental or vocal pedagogy, assessment, decolonized music education curriculum, psychology, differentiation and exceptional learners, mariachi, social justice, quantitative expertise, community-engaged performance practices. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities. A background teaching asynchronous online course. Five or more years of public-school teaching. Emerging or established national research profile in peer-reviewed conferences and/or publications.
