What You'll Do
  • The Pantex Plant is the nation's primary nuclear weapons manufacturing facility. The site is seeking a qualified applicant to join an accomplished Air Quality Compliance Team within the Environmental Compliance Department. Candidates should have professional experience with air quality permitting, emission tracking, and regulatory interpretation as a regulatory inspector, supporting a regulated entity, or both.
  • Perform duties as a team member in the Environmental Compliance Department; providing specialty job knowledge and experience to support the development, implementation, and reporting of air quality compliance strategies. Develop, document, and implement organizational strategies to ensure strict compliance with authorizations, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, and Federal and State regulations associated with emissions tracking, certifying the site's continued status as a synthetic minor source.
  • Cross train and conduct walk downs with other environmental professionals in the field and across the industrial areas to support final recommendations of a highly technical nature within a range of specialties.
  • Employ significant professional experience, education, and specialized training across multiple environmental science disciplines to lead or support other subject matter experts; mentor intern, associate, or technician level team members; communicate with senior management to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements; and ensure monitoring, analysis, and recording of emissions by technical and sampling organizations meet air quality data objectives.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office software to support excellence in written and verbal stakeholder communications.
  • Develop metrics, prepare reports, and conduct evaluations and assessments, from basic to complex, to quantify and interpret the Plant's progress towards organizational goals.
  • Support National Environmental Policy Act review of projects and actions to ensure compliance with Pantex Plant goals, DOE Orders and Policies, and state and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in an environmental, science, or engineering related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 4-7 years of relevant environmental experience, with substantial experience in air quality permitting, emissions tracking, and interpretation of air quality regulations.

  • OR a Master's degree in an environmental, science, or engineering related discipline with at least 1 year of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 4 to 7 years.

Preferred Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an environmental, science, or engineering related discipline with a minimum five years of relevant environmental experience, with substantial experience in air quality permitting, emissions tracking, and interpretation of air quality regulations, or a Master's degree in an environmental, science, or engineering discipline with at least four years of relevant experience.
  • Specialized work experience including:
    • Knowledge, interpretation, and documentation of applicable Federal, State of Texas, and DOE orders, rules, and regulations relating to air quality management, permitting, and compliance in an industrial setting.
    • Plan, schedule, conduct, and document USEPA Method 9 and 22 Visible Emission Evaluations.
    • Working with multi-disciplinary teams to balance industrial mission needs with compliance requirements among combinations of areas, including radionuclide monitoring in environmental media, natural resources, environmental air quality, petroleum storage tank, drinking water, wastewater, environmental management systems, and storm water.
    • Proven abilities to organize, plan, lead, and execute project management responsibilities; Demonstrated effective oral and written communication with various stakeholder groups, including regulatory agencies, upper management, DOE oversight, or the public.
    • Demonstrated success in exercising initiative, independent judgment, and discretion while under general supervision with work being reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
