Environmental Services Technician - Join Our Team at The Jackson Laboratory!

Location: Bar Harbor, Maine

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking dedicated applicants for the role ofEnvironmental Services Technician. As a vital member of our team, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and clean environment for our visitors and employees.

Position Details:

  • Schedule:Monday to Friday, 3:30 pm - 12:00 am.
  • Starting Pay:$18.50 per hour plus a $3 shift differential.
  • Glove Requirement:Ability to wear nitrile surgical gloves for up to 60% of the 8-hour shift.

Responsibilities:

  • Building Maintenance:Clean and supply designated areas, including floor care (strip, scrub, and re-coat), dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and wet-dry mopping.
  • Restroom Sanitization:Ensure restrooms are clean and well-stocked.
  • Trash Collection:Operate a Class 8 commercial rear-load trash truck, handle bio-waste, and manage recycling materials.
  • Equipment Operation:Operate JAX multi-surface floor machines, exterior window washing equipment, and make minor equipment adjustments/repairs.
  • Supply Management:Maintain supplies, move furniture, and assist with special projects.

Qualifications:

  • Education:High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver's License:Valid driver's license.
  • Communication Skills:Ability to understand and follow written/verbal instructions, communicate effectively, and exchange information.
  • Safety Compliance:Familiarity with Federal, State, and JAX safety rules and regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Physical Stamina:Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and walk up to 20,000 steps per day.
  • Equipment Proficiency:Acquire knowledge to safely operate cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, floor machines) within 1 month of hire.
  • Technology:Demonstrated proficiency in MS Outlook and tablet computers (e.g., MS Surface Pro).

Additional Information:

  • The Environmental Services Technician II position is currently scheduled for the second shift (Monday-Friday), but flexibility to work day shifts, third shifts, and weekends is essential.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training or project support, including work at other JAX properties in Bar Harbor.
