The Principal Portfolio Manager will be a part of a talented team that performs job responsibilities necessary to direct plans and priorities, while reviewing programs and communicating associated risks to stakeholders and organizational leaders. The Principal Portfolio Manager will lead teams, guide junior members, define project goals and monitor progress, develop schedules to complete tasks on time and define, develop, and document new processes. Within this position, the Principal Program Manager will immediately be responsible for several projects providing data engineering and operations research capabilities for customers across multiple organizations. As such, the Principal Program Manager must have a solid working knowledge of the modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) domain and digital engineering environment with the capacity to provide both leadership and hands-on technical support to each project.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Serve as the face of the company to our customers
  • Lead teams, including subcontractors, in the execution of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Interface with government leadership to obtain and clarify contract requirements; maintain responsibility for the daily control and supervision of all contract members
  • Conduct interviews and assist in making hiring decisions
  • Lead the strategic and tactical initiatives of assigned programs
  • Manage program resources to ensure program performance meets contract expectations
  • Manage the evaluation of program performance
  • Manage and implement innovation initiatives
  • Ensure company leadership has visibility to any program issues that may affect company reputation, branding, relationship, and CPARS results
  • Manage issues, risks and opportunities, assisting team members in removing roadblocks and communication to management about issues that cannot be resolved.
  • Create project descriptions; identifying problem sets with associated solutions to the customer
  • Define and direct business portfolio plans and priorities
  • Review high-level deliverables within projects across the portfolio
  • Perform program reviews
  • Exercise risk management principles
  • Responsible for creating and managing investment allocations
  • Lead the execution strategy for the defined portfolio
  • Responsible for communicating long-term portfolio strategy to key stakeholders to gain organizational alignment
  • Align customer acquisition or retention strategies to the broader portfolio strategy
  • Monitor market activity, penetration and competitive wins or losses
  • Align the portfolio segment strategy to broader business strategy
  • Understand how to target customers based off of total market potential and opportunity
  • Effectively use appropriate benchmarks and document key assumptions when developing forecasts
  • Manage price competition and assure alignment with overall business unit pricing goals
  • Build relationships with key leaders and establish relationships with new thought leaders
  • Participate in establishing company and industry best practices for business performance analysis
  • Anticipate and understand the different types of competition that will be faced in the future
  • Perform portfolio analysis, design, and construction
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders and decision makers
  • Responsible for mentoring and developing junior team members
  • Define new methods to complete work
  • Develop project schedule/timeline, prioritization and scope
  • Define, develop and document new processes as needed
  • Work autonomously with customers
  • Provide technical support and leverage technical background to contribute to each project

Required Skills and Experience:

  • BS/Masters in STEM field from accredited institution(s)
  • 10+ years of related experience employing analytical and/or systems engineering principles and best practices
  • 5+ years experience involving business/program/portfolio management
  • 10+ years of relevant military/government experience supporting multiple levels of command/leadership
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Senior expert with developing business plans and programs and the portfolio management function
  • Senior expert with leading multiple projects at one time while paying strict attention to detail
  • Senior expert with communicating associated risks to stakeholders and organizational leaders
  • Outstanding problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • An active DoD Secret or higher clearance

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • PhD in operations research or related field from accredited institution
  • 15+ years of experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • 10+ years of PM experience
