Position Summary

The Sonography Assistant's role is to assure smooth clinical flow and assist Sonography Technologist in providing medical services to participants. The Sonography Assistant acts as a liaison between healthcare clinicians, patients, and families.

Reportability

This position will report directly to the Sonography Technologist & Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Greet & welcome patients, visitors, and others to Mary's Center.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our patients and the public.
  • Follow HIPPA confidentiality guidelines.
  • Check patients in to the practice management system.
  • Assure efficient operations in the registration and billing processes.
  • Answer phone calls, provide appropriate assistance, and redirect calls appropriately.
  • Work as a liaison between the clients and the medical/service providers.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, referral eligibility and collects payment as necessary.
  • Verify patient demographic information (e.g., address, phone number) at every visit.
  • Assist with patient education projects according to patient/department needs.
  • Collect and track data necessary for patient follow-up and reporting.
  • Support and work with entire clinical team to established outcomes in coordination with overall organizational goals.
  • Room patients in a timely manner, facilitate clinic flow and patient care by problem-solving with on-site team.
  • Follow-up on missed appointments and contact patients per order of medical clinicians.
  • Facilitate communication between provider and patient as needed.
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, and storage of supplies.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to facilitate warm hand-offs.
  • May perform Sure Touch examination per provider referral and document as appropriate.
  • Assist the sonography technologist in completion of sonogram exam, including language interpretation support.
  • Follow urgent care response protocols in instances of acute medical concern.
  • Collaborate with sonography technologist to ensure complete documentation.
  • Responsible for uploading completed sonography reports to eCW.
  • Assist with management of patient schedule as needed.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and may rotate to other sites as determined by immediate supervisor

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Preferred, but not required one (1) year of experience in direct patient care and/or medical assistant certification or registration.
  • Experience working in community health care setting preferable.
  • A thorough understanding and working knowledge of patient confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulations is essential.
  • MA training preferred.

Language Requirement - Must have the ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish and/or other languages as used by participants.

Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment - Mostly in a typical medical office setting with quite to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluids which require the practice of Universal Precaution procedures
