General Responsibilities
A key member of the Honors staff, the Assistant Director collaborates with the Director of Honors and Undergraduate Research (HNUR) and the HNUR Advisory Committee/Work Group to ensure optimal program design and student outcomes across all Honors programs (Rouse Scholars, Schoenbrodt Scholars, and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)). The Assistant Director takes a leading role in the design and execution of honors programming related to cohort-building and career and personal development and supports other programming areas as assigned. Additionally, the Assistant Director provides counseling, mentoring, and academic advising services to students, and coordinates with other on-campus offices to secure supplemental academic and counseling support as needed. The Assistant Director supports recruitment and admissions processes for Honors and Undergraduate Research programs in cooperation with the Office of Admissions and Outreach, and contributes to ongoing data-gathering and assessment efforts.
Work Performed
* Design and execute curricular and co-curricular programming in the areas of career exploration and development, cohort-building (e.g. retreats), and enrichment (e.g. NYC trip).
* Oversee the HMDV course sequence and mentorship program.
* Support selection, award, and tracking processes for student scholarships.
* Implement academic probation processes and provide academic and personal advising/coaching to probation students.
* Monitor academic advising processes and issues; collaborate with academic advisers to support student academic planning.
* Co-advise and administer the cost center budget for HCC's Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
* Assist with maintaining high-quality resources and programming in the HCC Honors Commons.
* Coordinate the logistics of end-of-year Honors and Undergraduate Research ceremonies and celebrations.
* In collaboration with the HNUR Advisory Committee/Work Group and the Coordinator of Honors and Undergraduate Research, coordinate the annual HCC Scholars Symposium.
* Serve on the college's cross-functional HNUR Advisory Committee/Work Group and support the implementation of Committee initiatives.
* Support community outreach efforts for recruitment purposes and serve on admissions selection committees.
* Provide academic advising for HNUR students.
* Coordinate alumni outreach and activities in collaboration with the office of development.
* In collaboration with Public Relations and Marketing and the Coordinator of Honors and Undergraduate Research, assist in developing and updating promotional materials.
* Provide support for collecting/analyzing data and make recommendations for program changes.
* Train, supervise, and support the professional development of the Honors Commons Assistants.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required Master's degree

* Master's degree in Education or related field.
* At least three years of relevant administrative experience.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students in a counseling and/or advising capacity.
* Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies.
* Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
* Ability to collect and analyze data.
* Ability to use initiative to define and resolve problems.
* Ability to develop and deliver presentations using technology.Operational knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office, Google Suite and learning management systems, especially Canvas.


* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
* Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
* Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
