Job Description

Position: Medical Technologist

Location: Joint Pathology Center, Walter Reed Medical Center: Silver Spring, MD 20910

Job Type: Full-Time

IBEX IT Business Experts is looking for a certified Medical Technologist. The Medical Technologist for the Joint Pathology Center (JPC) will be responsible for operating and maintaining the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and related laboratory analytic equipment in accordance with the published standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer guidance.

Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and hold a DHA security clearance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with hospital core laboratory or chemistry lab with prior experience with mass spectrometry or other analytical techniques that require data interpretation     
  • Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) board certified by the ASCP, AMT, or other comparable board or registry

 

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, biology, or related field from an accredited college or university

  • Required to obtain and maintain a certification from either the National Certification Agency (NCA) Certification as a Certified Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

  • Laboratory Specialist with mass spectrometry or other laboratory analytical techniques requiring data interpretation 

  • Knowledge of professional laboratory analysis technology principles, practices, and concepts is sufficient to operate and generate results according to laboratory standards and accreditation (CAP and CAP ISO 15189)

  • Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) board certified by the ASCP, AMT, or other comparable board or registry

SPECIFIC TASKS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties of the Medical Technologist employee include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operating and maintaining the SEM-EDS and FT-IR in accordance with the published standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer guidance
  • Generation of accurate testing results, documentation for reporting
  • Maintaining documentation and records to support the quality management system and laboratory accreditation (CAP and CAP ISO 15189) to include analytical notes and results, maintenance and service records, and laboratory SOPs
  • Participate in improvement projects to increase the efficiency of existing SOPs, incorporate new methods or analytical techniques into the laboratory, and solve problems when confronted with new analytical challenges
  • Provide laboratory analysis and operational support as required
  • Implements the use of protocols for the performance of tests and evaluation of results
  •  Monitors conformity to protocols
  • Monitors record-keeping system and effective quality control procedures
  • Identifies/implements changes needed in the quality assurance program
  • Prepares reagents and control materials as required
  • Evaluates the validity of data in relation to the test system and procedures
  • Determines corrective actions for problems that arise either during the course of testing or in sample preparation and handling.
  • Provide data analysis and validation along with the use of testing protocols
  • Computer Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to produce quality documents
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to break down complex problems into manageable pieces
