Overview

BigBear.ai is seeking an exceptional and innovative Senior Vice President of Technology to lead innovation in methods and technologies that differentiate the "BigBear way" and manage our most senior technical resources supporting custom software development engagements and capture efforts. The successful candidate will have a proactive "let's figure it out" attitude, experience developing software and systems which apply data science and other analytics to understand and solve business problems, the ability to engage with clients and translate complex technical concepts into understandable functional impacts, and a proven history of coordinating highly technical engineers in multiple disciplines.

The SVP of Technology will have broad exposure to multiple programs and projects across BigBear.ai coupled with the ability to directly influence design and implementation. They will champion the application of our machine learning, predictive/prescriptive analytics, and data collections to solve critical business problems, and be the face of our company ensuring the world sees that "the BigBear way" is consistent, pushes the envelope of what is possible, and differentiated. You will enable in the education of our clients and staff to help them understand what we can achieve and manage solving the hardest problems while shepherding the process of getting projects started. What you will do

  • Build and lead a team that will act as visionary, trusted customer liaisons and "solution managers" in our government accounts, engaging with mission owners/operators to discover applications for ML, set project expectations, define requirements, and review results
  • Coordinate technical support for federal capture activities and strategic project activities that directly impacts success
  • Support increasing government revenue by leading your technical team to:
    • Ensure we can communicate and demonstrate our differentiation to prospects and customers
    • Solve hard technical problems and foster the appropriate and efficient application of best practices, methods, and technologies on client projects
    • Develop prototypes applying our capabilities to business problems
    • Support capture efforts with customer meetings, solution development, prototyping, and writing of technical proposals
    • Collaborate with the product team and the broader company to evolve our technology vision and execution while ensuring customer functional requirements are fully considered, best practices and differentiated learnings are shared, and a single Bigbear.ai identity is maintained
    • Provide ongoing advice to projects around technical solutions, best practices, and efficiencies
  • Stand up and maintain monitoring and reporting on enablement operations and be able to analyze collected data to optimize operations, increase customer satisfaction, and align costs
  • Establish and execute a budget to achieve measurable return on investment
  • Performing a full range of leadership responsibilities which may include but not be limited to interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees, assigning and directing work, driving performance management, and supporting corporate initiatives
  • Maintain awareness of the latest data science, cloud, DevOps, and other analytics software development methods and technologies and proactively support the adoption of truly beneficial new capabilities
  • Other duties as assigned

What you need to have

  • Minimum of 20 years in Systems and Software Engineering related roles
  • Minimum of 15 years of involvement in the design, development, and deployment of data-driven analytics software solutions, where individual coding contributions were broadly applicable to success
  • Minimum of 10 years managing technical teams involved in analytics software development
  • Proven success capturing and growing US government business, especially in the DOD and Intelligence Community
  • Experience engaging with senior-level executives, business analysts, and technical subject matter experts in support of data science or analytics efforts
  • Ability to describe the data assumptions and processing steps of common machine learning methods and which methods are appropriate for a variety of use cases
  • Experience visualizing data aggregations and creating data-driven stories to answer specific questions, especially via a dashboard which allows self-service data filtering and exploration (like Qlik, Tableau, QuickSight, or PowerBI)
  • Able to match customer requirements to appropriate technologies and approaches, describe the pros and cons of each option, provide optimal recommendations and level of effort assessments
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts to external business and technical audiences and write at a level appropriate for a senior executive
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Able to work independently and self-identify tasks
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field

What we'd like you to have

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance, especially having an active TS clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Familiarity with time series forecasting, computer vision, and natural language processing especially using neural networks
  • Familiarity and ability to develop - or quickly ramp up to develop - with the following:
    • ML Libraries such as Scikit-learn, Pandas, Numpy, PySpark, MXNet, MLib, Weka, Spacy, and FastText
    • ML Platforms such as KNIME, Spark, SageMaker, H2O, and TensorFlow
    • Java, Python, and SQL including related ecosystems and frameworks, like Eclipse, Jupyter Notebooks, Spring, and Djanjo
    • Distributed platforms (i.e. HBase, PrestoDB, Athena, Spark, Kafka) and the cloud (i.e. AWS, GCP, Azure)
    • Performing dimensionality reduction, especially through encoders
    • Selecting features appropriate to a target using bottom-up approaches at scale, like Boruta
    • Automating the assessment of model validity to drive hyper-parameter tuning
    • Transforming data to create stationary inputs, especially when facing heteroskedasticity, periodicity, and trends
    • JavaScript frameworks, particularly Angular, jQuery, ReactJS, NodeJS, and MaterialUI
    • Interfacing with RESTful and GraphQL APIs
    • Incorporating, configuring, and customizing charting, mapping, and other visualization capabilities like D3JS, Leaflet, and Plotly
    • Extract-transform-load (ETL) data pipelines, especially using KNIME, Informatica, Talend, CloverDX, Apache NiFi, or other frameworks
    • Dimensional data models and noSQL/graph databases
    • Experience with distributed stream/message processing, especially using Kafka, Spark, or other distributed platforms
  • Experience with distributed databases (like CockroachDB, Impala, Drill, GreenPlum, or Spark SQL), graph databases (especially Neo4j and Neptune), noSQL query engines (especially ElasticSearch, MongoDB, and DynamoDB), streaming/timeseries databases (like InfluxDB), and schema-at-query engines (especially PrestoDB)
  • Experience deploying data and processing in commercial clouds, especially AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure
