Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Infection Prevention, conducts infection prevention activities including surveillance to decreases healthcare associated infection and improve patient safety across MAS. Assists the Senior Manager of Infection Prevention in the implementation of the MAS Infection Prevention Program. Objectively & systematically assesses monitors, evaluates, & improves the processes that affect the quality of patient care while ensuring compliance with all standards, regulatory, & accreditation requirements. Improves patient outcomes by preventing infections.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Develops, manages, organizes, & implements the Regional Infection Prevention Program with a focus area of responsibility to include ambulatory surgery services, invasive diagnostic procedures & any procedures performed in clinical areas, endoscopy suites, procedure & treatment rooms and other high-risk activities as defined in the annual Infection Prevention risk assessment.
  • Provides infection prevention guidelines and recommendations for KPMAS Health plan and MAPMG staff on evidence-based practices directly involved in a situation that may present potential an infection control risk.
  • Promotes compliance with accreditation standards, & other federal & state laws & regulations, as well as internal Kaiser Permanente's requirements relating to infection prevention & control.
  • Participates, collaborates, & represents the organization on external infection prevention projects & participates in program office-sponsored infection prevention initiatives.
  • Maintains effective communication with all individuals involved in infection prevention initiatives or projects.
  • Promotes and shares the replication of successful best practices to or from other regions within the program, or other health care organizations.
  • Applies change management concepts to influence successful, timely attainment of performance goals.
  • Analyzes and interprets data for Key stakeholders in KPMAS.
  • Identification of infectious disease processes, outbreaks and surveillance and epidemiologic investigation.
  • Perform Infection Prevention audits in Ambulatory Surgery Center, Endoscopy Suites, Clinical Decision Units, Urgent Care, and Medical Office Buildings as outlined in the Regional Infection Prevention Workplan and Risk Assessment.
  • Performs in services on Infection Prevention related topics as required.
  • Ability to apply and use surveillance data and reports, advanced statistical methods and tools, including application of the standard infection ratio, risk assessment, hazard vulnerability analysis, use and evaluation of emerging prevention practices for patient care, diagnostic methods, participation in antimicrobial stewardship programs.
  • Leads integration of prevention activities within and across departments, high level negotiation skills, financial/value analysis of programs and related projects, relationship management, ability to influence and persuade up to and including executive level, team and consensus building within and across stakeholder groups.
  • Leads performance improvement (PI) teams for institution/system, develops interprofessional competencies, applies translational research methods, uses advanced PI tools/methods, focus on reliability and sustainability.
  • Basic Qualifications:
    Experience
  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience in healthcare in surgery, procedural or other high-risk clinical area for infection prevention required.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in required in health-related field such as nursing, epidemiology, microbiology and/or public health.
  • License, Certification, Registration
  • N/A.

  • Additional Requirements:
  • CIC certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) within two (2) years of date of hire.
  • Completion of a basic infection practitioner course through APIC within 1 year of date of hire.
  • Experience with AORN Standards of practice in the surgical setting.
  • Experience AMMI Standards of practice for the Sterile Processing.
  • Experience with infection prevention guidance and recommendations in the healthcare environment for construction and renovation projects.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership role and influence in healthcare career.
  • Experience in ambulatory health care setting.
  • Experience with Joint Commission and/or Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care or other accreditation agencies.
  • Experience in hospital acute care setting.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and a strong skill set as Infection Preventionist preferred.
  • Knowledgeable with CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSH) definitions preferred.
  • Knowledge of AORN, AAMI standards, AAAHC, Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), Society for Healthcare and Epidemiology (SHEA), state and local health regulatory guidelines preferred.
  • Knowledge with transmission-based organisms, multi-drug resistant organisms and isolation precautions preferred.
  • Strong computer, written and oral presentation skills preferred.
  • Able to work independently preferred
