Job Description

JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

DEPARTMENT: ENGINEERING

REPORTS TO: CTO

CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT

Job Summary:

Oversee Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering departments; costing for new programs, including budgets, schedules, manning, and tasking allocations. Ensure engineering department leads are in-line with funded programs. Ensure Engineering outputs align with strategic plan. Coordinate with CTO, executive team and directors.

Hybrid work and travel reimbursement available.

Remote work permitted from US location. However, on-site employment at corporate office of one week per month is required.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure department is meeting performance goals, costs and schedule.
  • Plans and coordinates manning, budget, and tasking of engineering department leads.
  • Recruits engineering staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations.
  • Provides training and mentoring.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create long-range operating and manufacturing goals in consultation with COO and Director of Manufacturing.
  • Development of new products.
  • Understanding contract type, statement of work, program goals, budget, and schedule.
  • Meeting delivery schedules, funding limits and production quality expectations.
  • Work within the AS9100 quality management system (QMS) and update as needed.
  • Costing of new engineering programs.
  • Managing the product manufacturing package.
  • Analysis, testing, and documenting that system designs meet technical standards.
  • Ensure engineering supervisors and engineering staff coordinate in meeting production tasks.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of engineering and product development.
  • Excellent financial skills and ability to manage a budget.
  • At least one year experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to write reports detailing required aspects for airworthiness.
  • Experience designing aircraft modifications to established standards (FAA and/or NAVAIR).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, plus 4 years of relevant experience.
